Thomas "
Tom" Cat.
Tom's blue-gray longhair cat British. He is the main protagonist and also the main antagonist of the story, which is home to the pampered life, while Jerry is a small brown house mouse who lives always in close proximity to it and the second is protagonist of the story. "Tom" is a generic name for a male cat or Warner Bros.
cartoon character Sylvester was originally called "Thomas". Tom was originally called "Jasper" in the first short, Puss Gets the Boot, while Jerry was named "Jinx". Tom is very quick-tempered and thin-skinned, while adorable mouse Jerry is independent and opportunistic. Jerry also possesses surprising strength for his size, lifting items such as anvils with relative ease and despite considerable influence them. Despite typical cat eats the mouse, it is actually quite rare for Tom to actually try and eat Jerry. Despite being very energetic and determined, Tom is no match for Jerry's brains and wits. By the final "iris-out" or "fade-out" of each cartoon, Jerry usually comes triumphant, while Tom is shown as the loser. However, other results may be reached; on rare occasions, Tom triumphs, usually when Jerry becomes the aggressor or when he crosses some sort of line (the best example of a place in the Million Dollar Cat where, after find out that new wealth Tom gained taken away if he harms any animal, including a mouse, he torments Tom until Tom finally loses his temper and attacks him). Sometimes, usually ironically, they both lose, usually when Jerry becomes the last trap he could after it affects Tom (Example in Chuck Jones' Filet Meow short where Jerry orders a shark to scare Tom goldfish away from eating. Afterwards, the shark scares Jerry away as well) or when Jerry overlooks something at the end of the course. Sometimes, they both end up friends (only for something to happen that Tom will chase Jerry again) be. Both characters display sadistic tendencies, in that they are less likely to take pleasure in tormenting each other. However, depending on the
cartoon, whenever one character appears to be in mortal danger (in a dangerous situation or by a third party), the other will develop a conscience and save him. Sometimes, they bond over a mutual sentiment towards an unpleasant experience and their attacking each other more fun than serious attacks. Both shows multiple shorts going along with minimal difficulty, and they are more than capable of working together when the situation calls for it, usually against a third party who manages to torture and humiliate both.
Tom changes his love interest many times. The first is a love interest appears inPuss Toots n 'Toots, and calls him "Tommy" in The Mouse Comes Dinner. He is interested in cat called Toots in The Zoot Cat also though she is a different matter with the original Toots. Is the most frequent love interest Tom Toodles Galore, who is no dialogue in Tom and Jerry cartoons ever.
Despite five shorts ending with a depiction of death all Tom, a league is never permanent; He even reads about his own death in a flashback in Jerry's Diary. It seems to die in explosions in Mouse Trouble (after which he is seen in heaven) and in Yankee Doodle Mouse, and in the two Mouseketeers guillotine is offscreen.
Jerry Mouse.
While many speak of supporting and minor characters, Tom and Jerry rarely so themselves. Tom, most famously sings, and wooing female cats; for example, Tom sings Louis Jordan's "Is You Or Is You Is not My Baby" in the 1946 short Solid Serenade. In a couple of shorts, Tom, when Romancing woos a female cat, her French-accented voice similar to that of screen actor Charles Boyer. At the end of the Million Dollar Cat has begun to antagonize Jerry says he is throwing away a million dollars, but he is happy. Co-director William Hanna provided most of the squeaks, gasps, and other vocal effects for the pair, including the most famous sound effects from the series, leather-lunged scream Tom (created by recording scream Hanna and eliminating the beginning and ending of the recording, leaving only the strongest part of the scream on the soundtrack) and Jerry's nervous gulp. The vocalization is relatively common but made another claim Tom when some external reference case or certain eventuality impossible, which inevitably, ironically happens to thwart Tom plans - at this point, a bedraggled and battered Tom appears and says a haunting, echoing voice "Do not you believe it!", referring to some shorts famous World War II propaganda of the 1940s. In one episode, Tom hires a mouse exterminator who, after attempts to dispatch Jerry and again failed to changes, Cat exterminator profession by crossing out the "Mouse" on his title and writing "Cat", resulting in Tom spelling out The word out loud before reluctantly pointing at himself. One short, 1956's Blue Cat Blues, is narrated by Jerry in voiceover (voiced by Paul Frees) as they try to win back. Both Tom and Jerry speak more than once in the 1943 short The Lonesome Mouse. The Movie is the first (and so far only) installment of the series where the duo cat-and-mouse speak regularly famous Tom and Jerry.

In his attempts to catch Jerry, Tom often has to deal with a spike (called "Killer"), a bulldog guard angry, vicious but extremely dumb who tries to attack Tom for bothering his son Tyke (sometimes called "Junior") while trying to get Jerry. Although they have in cartoons, Tom and Jerry seems always and chasing and bothering his son. At first spike was anonymous and mute (aside from howls and biting noise) as well as attack indiscriminately, not caring whether it was Tom or Jerry although Tom usually attack. In later cartoons Spike spoke often, using a voice and expressions (performed by Billy Bletcher and later Daws Butler) modeled after comedian Jimmy Durante. Spike's coat has changed throughout the years between gray and creamy tan. The addition of Spike son Tyke in the late 1940s as a result of the slight softening of its character spin-off spike and short-lived theatrical series (Spike and Tyke). Most cartoons with a spike in it's system; Spike normally want something (like building a dog house or sleep) to complete when Tom and Jerry antics stop him from doing it, so Spike (probably because of prejudice) singles out Tom as the culprit and threatens him that if it ever happens again he will "something horrible" with Tom (effectively forcing Tom to put the blame on anyone else) and Jerry overhears, followed by Jerry do something can interfere doing whatever Spike and Tom barely manages to stop normally (usually getting injured in the process), usually Jerry eventually wrecks whatever spike in spectacular fashion and leaving Tom to blame , forcing him to fight and inevitably spike to lose (usually due to the fact the Tomás is usually framed by Jerry and Spike just does not 't like Tom) outside the screen, Tom finally has shown that Injured general and Jerry smugly cuddles up to spike unscathed. At least, however, not something that benefits Tom Spike, promises not to interfere ever again; causing Jerry to leave the house and frantically running away (in the Here-cup Pup). Spike is well known for his famous "Listen pussy cat!" catchphrase when it threatens Tom, is another famous catchphrase "That's my boy!" Usually said when it supports or congratulate his son. Tyke is described as cute, sweet looking, happy and loveable puppy. He is the son of Spike, but unlike Spike, Tyke not only speak and communicate (mostly toward his father) by barking, yapping, wagging his tail, wimpering and growling. Spike Tyke Father would always get out of the way to care for and comfort his son and to ensure that it is safe from Tom. Tyke love Spike loves his father and his son and they get along like friends, though most of the time they would be taking the stairs or teach Spike Tyke woluld the main facts be a dog's life. Like Spike, Tyke appearanch is change throughout the year, from gray (with white paws) to creamy tan. When Tom and Jerry Kids aired first, this was the first time the audience was able to hear talk Tyke.
Butch is a black alley cat who also want to catch and eat Jerry. It is the most frequent adversary Tom. However, for most of the episodes he appears in, it's usually seen rivaling Tom over Toodles. Butch also appeared as one of pals or chums as in some cartoons tom, where Butch is leader Tom friends, who are Meathead and Topsy.
